7 Link Shortening Best Practices Everyone Should Follow

How can linking be done better? It's not a question people often raise, because as long as a link gets you to a destination effectively, it works fine, right?

Truth is, links offer so much more utility when they're optimized to be most effective. Here's how to make the most of your links with Bitly.

1 – Shorten your links

It seems kind of silly to say, considering this is a post on link shortening best practices. It's a little…redundant? But before we can cover all of the ways you can improve your links you do have to shorten them.

3 – Customize the back-half of your links

Replace the randomly generated letters and numbers with a custom call to action. Showing your audience where you're sending them gives them more assurance that they're clicking through to the right place.

Some tips:

👉 Be aware of case sensitivity

QR Codes allow smartphone users to easily scan a code instead of having to type a link into their browser. You can easily generate a code on any link in Bitly and capture engagement with it as you would any other link.

6 – Track & compare cross-channel link performance
